OTTAWA — The Honourable Herb Dhaliwal, Minister of Natural Resources
Canada, today announced the appointment of Gordon M. MacInnis as Chairman
of the Board to the
Cape Breton Development Corporation.
“Mr. MacInnis has had a distinguished career in finance and academia, and
he will be a welcome addition to the Corporation,” said Minister Dhaliwal. “I
believe his leadership and experience will be an asset to the Board in its deliberations
and decisions.”
Mr. MacInnis has just finished a term as Interim President of University
College of Cape Breton (UCCB) in Nova Scotia. He is currently a member
of the Canadian
Association of University Business Officers, the Institute of Public Administrators
of Canada, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, and the Association
of Universities and Colleges of Canada.
He received his designation as chartered accountant in 1986 while working
for
KPMG Chartered Accountants in Sydney, Nova Scotia. In 1988, he became Town
Manager for Glace Bay, N.S., and in 1994 joined the Cape Breton Regional
Municipality. He moved to UCCB in 2000 as Chief Financial Officer.
Mr. MacInnis has remained involved with the community over the years.
He has served in various capacities in the Glace Bay Healthcare Corporation,
the Minister
of Health’s Task Force on Regionalization of Provincial Healthcare Systems
and the Cape Breton Micro Loan Action Fund. Mr. MacInnis holds a bachelor’s
degree in commerce from Mount Allison University.
The Cape Breton Development Corporation was formed by an Act of Parliament
in 1967 to conduct coal mining and related operations in the Sydney coalfield.
It
