2001-2002 Recipients Of The Recreational Fisheries Awards Announced

OTTAWA -- Herb Dhaliwal, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today
congratulated the recipients of CanadaÂ's Recreational Fisheries Awards for
2001-2002. The awards are presented to Canadian individuals and organizations in
recognition of their work to protect and enhance recreational fisheries and
their habitat, improve fishing opportunities and encourage industry and tourism
development.
"I want to congratulate the recipients of the recreational fisheries
awards who deserve this special recognition for their outstanding contribution
to the promotion of a healthy recreational fishery," said Mr. Dhaliwal.
"We all share a responsibility to preserve our natural resources for future
generations. We should all be proud of the work accomplished by these
individuals and their dedication to improving fish habitat productivity in
Canadian waters."
The recipients of the 2001-2002 awards are:

- Darryl
Choronzey, Ontario
- J.D. Irving
Limited, New Brunswick
- Corduroy
Brook Enhancement, Newfoundland

CanadaÂ's National Recreational Fisheries Awards, created in 1989, recognize
outstanding contribution by Canadians to conserve and develop recreational
fisheries and their habitat.
Canadian individuals, groups, businesses or associations, working
independently from government agencies are eligible for these awards and can be
nominated by an organization or by individual sponsors. A completed nomination
form, a brief history of the nominee, a description of the project or activity
and letters of support from the nominators can be submitted to the address shown
below.
A National Selection Committee of prominent Canadians, representing each
province and territory, is appointed by the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans to
review nominations and recommend nominees to the Minister.
